Illegal medicine racket uncovered in Howrah; Office linked to TMC leader under investigation

A joint operation by the Drug Control Department and Belur Police has uncovered an alleged illegal pharmaceutical racket in the Belur area of Howrah. Search operations conducted over the past three days led to the recovery of a large quantity of suspected illegal medicines and prompted a wider investigation into the source and distribution of the products.

According to allegations, the office of TMC youth leader Kailash Mishra was being used as the centre of the suspected operation. Sources claimed that Kailash Mishra’s younger brother, Vishal Mishra, was primarily involved in the pharmaceutical activities linked to the premises. Authorities have not released any official findings regarding individual responsibility.

Acting on information received, officials from the Drug Control Department and the police conducted a raid at the location. During the initial inspection, investigators reportedly recovered several documents and damaged medicines that raised suspicion about activities being carried out from the premises.

Officials later returned to conduct a follow-up search and allegedly discovered a concealed storage area inside the office. A large quantity of medicines packed in cartons was recovered from what investigators described as a hidden mini-warehouse located within the premises.

Sources alleged that the office was being used for black-market trading of counterfeit and unauthorized medicines. Drug Control officials declined to comment on the quantity of medicines seized or the estimated value of the recovery. Investigators are examining the origin of the medicines, distribution channels and possible links to a broader illegal pharmaceutical network, while official findings remain pending.
